What the crop keeps

The crop keeps the largest square that fits in the middle of the photo. A 4000×3000 photo becomes 3000×3000: the full height stays and an equal strip comes off each side. A portrait photo loses its top and bottom instead.

Nothing is resized, so the square keeps the photo's original sharpness. If you need an exact size, like 1080×1080 for Instagram, resize it afterwards.

Square images are used for profile pictures, product photos, album covers and square social posts.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Which part of the photo is kept?

The centre. Equal amounts are cut from both sides (or the top and bottom) to make it square.

Does it make the image smaller?

It removes the cropped part but doesn't scale the rest down. The square's side equals the photo's shorter side.

Can I crop to a circle?

Not here. Most sites that show round pictures, like YouTube and TikTok, take a square and make it round themselves.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It's processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
