MP4 to MP3 Converter

Drop an MP4 and get the sound as an MP3. The conversion runs on your own device, so even long videos aren't uploaded anywhere.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

MP4 to MP3 in three steps

1.

Drop the MP4

Pick or drag in a video file up to 500 MB.

2.

Choose the quality

192 kbps suits speech and most music; 320 kbps is the highest MP3 quality.

3.

Convert and download

The audio is extracted and encoded to MP3 in your browser. Download it when it's done.

How the conversion works

An MP4 is a container: it holds a video stream and, usually, an audio stream in AAC format. Converting to MP3 drops the video and re-encodes the audio with the LAME MP3 encoder, the same one desktop apps use.

It all runs in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The first time, the converter itself (about 30 MB) downloads and is cached; after that, conversions start straight away. Your video is read from your disk and never sent to a server.

Pick the bitrate by use: 128 kbps is fine for voice recordings and podcasts, 192 kbps is a good default, and 320 kbps is for music you want to keep at the best MP3 quality. A higher bitrate can't add detail the original audio didn't have.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 500 MB. On a phone, files over 200 MB may run out of memory; a computer handles them better.

How long does it take?

Extracting audio is fast: usually a few seconds to a minute depending on the video's length and your device. The first run also downloads the converter once.

Will the MP3 sound worse than the video?

MP3 is a lossy format, like the AAC audio inside most MP4s. At 192 kbps or 320 kbps, most people can't hear a difference.

Can I convert MOV, WebM or MKV to MP3 too?

Yes. Use the Extract Audio from Video tool, which takes MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI.
