OGG and WAV, explained

OGG files usually hold Vorbis audio, an open format common in games, Linux apps and some web players. Some Apple apps and older devices don't play it.

WAV is uncompressed audio: exact, but big, about 10 MB per minute of CD-quality stereo. It's the format to edit in.

Converting OGG to WAV doesn't bring back what OGG compression removed: the WAV sounds the same as the OGG, just in a bigger file. It's still the right move when an editor or a platform asks for WAV, or so that further edits don't lose more.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Does converting OGG to WAV lose quality?

No further loss, but no gain either: WAV keeps exactly what the OGG had.

Will the WAV be bigger or smaller?

Bigger: WAV doesn't compress the way OGG does.

How long does it take?

Seconds for most files: audio converts quickly, even in the browser.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It's processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
