When to use JPG instead of PNG
PNG is lossless: it keeps every pixel exactly, which is right for logos, icons, screenshots of text and anything with transparency. For photos and video thumbnails that makes files much bigger than they need to be.
JPG throws away detail the eye doesn't notice, so a photo or thumbnail is often five to ten times smaller at 85% quality. That means faster pages and fewer 'file too large' errors in upload forms.
JPG has no transparency. Transparent parts of your PNG are filled with white, so a logo on a transparent background becomes a logo on white. Keep those as PNG, or use WebP, which supports transparency and is also small.

Frequently
Asked Questions
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
They become white, because JPG can't store transparency.
What quality should I pick?
85% is a good default. Go down to 70% for web thumbnails; go up to 95% if you'll edit the image again.
Is the image uploaded?
No. The conversion uses your browser's own image encoder.
Can I convert other formats?
Yes: there are converters between PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF, plus GIF and BMP to those formats.
