Why images save as WebP
Websites serve WebP because it's smaller than JPG at the same quality, so pages load faster. When you save an image from a site, you often get the WebP, and some editors, upload forms and older apps won't take it.
JPG has no transparency, so any see-through parts of the WebP get a white background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Why won't my WebP open?
Some apps and upload forms don't support WebP yet. A JPG works everywhere.
What JPG quality should I use?
85 looks the same as the original for most images; go higher for print.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG can't be transparent, so they turn white. Use PNG to keep transparency.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It's processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
