Lock the edit in Resolve
Finish the cut, the grade and the sound. Turn off any subtitle track you made so the render has no text burned in.
Render and upload
Render an MP4 or MOV and drop it into Sycamore. WebM and MP3 work too. Sycamore transcribes the audio and times each word.
Choose a style and check the words
Try a few caption templates on your footage. Read the transcript, click any wrong word to fix it, and set the captions to the top, center or bottom.
Download the MP4
Export with the subtitles burned in, in the original frame or as 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1.
When a DaVinci Resolve subtitle generator saves you time
If you need a subtitle file for YouTube or a client, Resolve's own subtitle track does the job. Keep using it for that.
Short-form clips are different. Viewers expect two or three words on screen, big text and the current word lit up. In Resolve that means styling the track by hand or building animated titles in Fusion, and redoing it on every new clip. Sycamore does that part after the render, so your Resolve project stays about the edit.
Render at the frame size you plan to post. If you shot 16:9 but post to TikTok, you can still export as 9:16 in Sycamore, but check that your framing works in a vertical crop first.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Does DaVinci Resolve have a subtitle generator?
Yes. Resolve can create subtitles from your audio on a subtitle track, and it's a feature of the paid Studio version. You can style the track and burn it in or export it as a file.
How do I add animated word-by-word captions to a DaVinci Resolve video?
Render the finished edit, upload it to Sycamore and pick a style that highlights the spoken word. Fix any word in the transcript, then download the MP4.
What render settings should I use in Resolve?
Render an MP4 or MOV at full quality and at the frame size you plan to post. Captions look only as sharp as the video under them.
Can I import Sycamore captions back into my Resolve timeline?
No. Sycamore gives you an MP4 with the captions burned in, not a subtitle file or editable titles. Caption the final render so you don't need to go back.
Will the captions cover my Resolve titles?
Not if you place them well. Set the captions to the top, center or bottom so they sit clear of any text you added in Resolve.
