Picking the right fit

TikTok plays videos at 9:16, and anything else gets black bars or zoomed in by the app. Resizing it yourself lets you choose what's kept.

Fill the frame crops a landscape video to its middle third. It's the best look when the subject stays in the centre, like a talking head. Blurred background keeps the whole picture, sized to fit the width, over a blurred, zoomed copy of the same video: the standard look for reposting landscape clips. Black bars does the same with plain black.

Leave room for captions. TikTok's buttons cover the right edge and the caption text covers the bottom, so keep important things, including your own subtitles, in the middle of the frame.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What size should a TikTok video be?

1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical frame. TikTok accepts other sizes but shows them with bars or cropped.

Will this also work for Reels and Shorts?

Yes. Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts use the same 1080×1920 vertical frame.

How long does it take?

The video is re-encoded in your browser, which takes a while: roughly a few minutes per minute of 1080p video on a laptop. Choose the 720×1280 output to make it faster.

Is the video uploaded?

No. It's processed on your device.
