4:5 in the feed, 3:4 on your grid

Instagram shows feed photos 1080 pixels wide, anywhere from 1.91:1 landscape to 4:5 portrait. A 1080×1350 portrait fills the most screen as people scroll, which is why it's the standard post size, and it's the tallest size you can still boost as an ad.

Since January 2025 your profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 tile. A 4:5 post loses a thin strip, about 34 pixels, from the left and right edges there. Keep text and faces away from the sides and it looks right in both places.

The image is cropped from the centre to 4:5, then sized to 1080×1350. A landscape photo loses a lot from the sides, so check the result before posting.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What is the best Instagram post size?

1080×1350 pixels (4:5) for photos. Square posts are 1080×1080 and landscape posts are 1080×566.

Why does my post look cropped on my profile?

The profile grid uses 3:4 tiles, so 4:5 posts lose a little from each side there. The full post still shows in the feed.

What if my image isn't 4:5?

It's cropped from the centre to 4:5, then sized to 1080×1350.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It's processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
