M4A and OGG, explained
M4A is AAC audio in an MP4-style file, Apple's usual audio format (Voice Memos, GarageBand, iTunes). It sounds a little better than MP3 at the same size.
OGG files usually hold Vorbis audio, an open format common in games, Linux apps and some web players. Some Apple apps and older devices don't play it.
Both are compressed formats, so converting re-encodes the sound once. At a good bitrate the difference is hard to hear.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Does converting M4A to OGG lose quality?
OGG is lossy, so a little. At 192 kbps or more it's hard to hear.
Will the OGG be bigger or smaller?
About the same, depending on the bitrate you pick.
How long does it take?
Seconds for most files: audio converts quickly, even in the browser.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It's processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
