Why it becomes an MP3
FLAC is lossless: it keeps every detail of the original at roughly half the size of a WAV. Music collectors use it, but many phones and editors don't open it.
FLAC is lossless, so it can't get much smaller and stay FLAC. Saving it as MP3 at a lower bitrate is what shrinks it: often 10 to 20 times smaller.
A one hour recording at 64 kbps is about 28 MB.
