Instagram Caption Character Counter
Type or paste your caption to see how many characters you have left, whether your hashtags fit Instagram's limit, and what people see before they tap "more".
Instagram's caption limits
An Instagram caption can be up to 2,200 characters, including spaces, emoji, hashtags and @mentions. Instagram counts an emoji as one character here, and so does this counter.
Since December 2025 Instagram allows at most 5 hashtags per post, counted across the caption and the comments. Captions with more won't post, so the counter warns you when you go over.
In the feed, only about the first 125 characters show before "… more" (fewer on small phones). Put the hook, and anything you want people to act on, in that first line.
